20 Life - Magic The Gathering Life Counter App Reviews

Great app!

The best life counter around! The only thing thats missing is some way to quickly reset the scores (eg. by shaking the device)

Beautiful app - not quite 5 stars, but close!

As most have pointed out already, the major draw back from this app is the fact that it doesnt keep your iPad from going to sleep. If this was fixed, it would be a 5 star app pretty easily. Some additional suggestions for features: -- Support for more than 1v1 -- Buttons! The gestures are awesome, but add in the ability to enable buttons if desired (reset, gain life, remove life, add counters, etc.) -- Theme support for decks with more than 2 colors -- Somehow, make the life totals more visible Keep up the awesome work! Looking forward to updates :)

Lost data means Ill never use again

In the middle of a draft game my opponent accidentally cleared the life totals by slightly dragging down while two-finger tapping. It was pretty easy to recreate and is a major flaw. The artistic style is great but the app is ultimately unusable for me.

Beautiful

An excellent, well thought-out life counter. Covers all of my needs, is beautifully designed, and is free to boot. Highly recommended.

Pink PONIES!

Great update. Love love love this app!

Great app

It doesnt do fancy things but all it does it does well!

20 Life

20 Life is a beautifully minimalist app that does what it promises, but it needs iPhone 5 support. Also, using 2 fingers to count up can sometimes be a bit unreliable. Buttons should be an option, but not required. Support for more than 2 players would also be nice. EDIT: The app has been updated with iPhone 5 support and buttons! You can also "roll" once you start a game. Thanks for listening, devs. Review changed to 5 stars.

Would be perfect if not for one big drawback

I love this app! This is hands down my favorite app for recording life-totals in Magic the Gathering. Version 1.0 had a couple of flaws, but the developer listened to user feedback, and took care of all but the smallest issues with 1.5! I would highly recommend this to all Magic players. Though, if there is a 1.6, Id still love to see a few small changes: - I love the tap to roll for who goes first, it is a great addition, but the fade in is a little slow. Its a nice effect, but it gets old waiting so long for it. - The gradients are very pretty, but they favor black/white a little too heavily, and it would be nice if there were support for more than two colors. - The new features are great, but have hurt the clean UIs usability just a bit. I dont really have any suggestions for that, just to keep thinking of ways to clean things up and elegantly incorporate features. Youve done a fantastic job so far! - Despite my last request, Id still like to see options for flipping a coin and possibly rolling a d6. Its easy enough to find an actual coin, but since it is a fairly common element in modern games, it would be nice if everything I needed was in one place. Keep up the great work! Looking forward to the next version and your next app.

Great app!

Very easy and fun to use!

Great

I use this app constantly all day. More updates:5 stars

Lacks rotation support, but otherwise great!

I previously wrote a moderately negative review due to features that this update contains. Thanks to the dev for fixing things! Upgrading from 3 to 4 stars - the fifth star will come when rotation is supported. (See below.) This app is great on the iPad, though it does lack one feature that would be very helpful: screen rotation support. I use it on my iPad during tournaments, when there often isnt a lot of room. Because of this, Ill leave my iPad propped up sideways in its case, which puts the counters sideways. This app is sorely lacking screen rotation support for precisely this scenario. Thus, when the iPad is sideways, the numbers and text are always sideways. Its annoying, but hardly catastrophic.

Superb update.

I am glad to see most of the flaws are corrected in this version. They make the application much more useful, in my opinion. I hope things continue to evolve. I know Poison is not a mainstay in Standard, but it is sad to see it leave.

Great for 2 players

Love this app

Great UI but still flawed

There needs to be more options to be set. First of all, I dont need to roll in app all the time, especially between games in a single match. Why do I have to roll every time to get to the life totals? Also why cant I start a new game right away rather than have to go back to the main page and hit one of the history matches to start a new game? Also the extra counters should be customizable and they should be able to be turned off. I dont need an edh counter and a poison counter i should be able to turn it off. Plus EDH commander damage us calculated per commander so one extra counter isnt that useful. Also I should be able to have both life totals facing me so I can manipulate it more easily than have to do it upside down. And why is one of the tabs called walker instead of poison? The description talks about two finger tap. Doesnt work. I assume its because you added the plus and minus buttons. My biggest gripe is not being able to easily reset the life totals back to 20.

Best life tracking app ever

I got this app because it was beautiful and stylistic but you guys managed to make it even more functional. The new update is great and is just what this app needed.

Looks great, but needs refinement

Instead of a history of games, we really need a history of life changes within a game. Needs the ability to turn off rolling before and EDH counter.

Looks great, needs work

Def a sexy app, but some times the looks get in the way. Gives three counters each for two players, in large friendly fonts. Players can be named and colors tracked. Lets you swipe or use +/- to change counts, though I wish it would give the option to disable one or the other. Does a skippable roll before games (just tap). There are a bunch of issues though ... Starting new games and using the history is pretty clumsy and not at all intuitive. I wish I could see my poison/etc. counts without switching between them, and it would be so nice to be able to touch a counter name to switch to it. I also find the text colors hard to read quickly with some color combos. Seems like this app is a few tweaks away from perfect for casual play, and Im looking forward to see what future updates bring.

Playing Magic just isnt the same without it

Far and away the most elegant and intuitive life counter app Ive tried.

Great App, but Needs Reset

This is a beautiful app, with good functionality and a polished appearance. Itd be great, however, if there were an easy way to start a new game. The only other quirk I noticed is that the color options are inconsistent, and get confused with three color decks. Maybe thats my fault though!

Elegant

Easily the most refined MtG app out there, but has a few shortcomings. The color gradients only support 2 colors, the dragging to add/subtract more life is unnecessarily fast and sensitive, it does not allow for multiple planeswalkers, and it seems to have dropped support for infect (?!). Far ahead of the competition, however. Definitely worth the dollar.
